How to Grow Your Email List
By Clare Gambaro, Solutions Found
"How do I grow my email
list?"... is a question we get asked time and time again. The answer
can be relatively simple.
[Please note we always recommend following industry best practice
and complying with relevant anti-Spam laws.]
The easiest and quickest ways to grow your house/internal list of
email addresses are as follows:
Ask for email addresses every day, in every way.
-
Do you have a physical location that your customers come to?
Place your guest/sign up book in a prominent spot, asking people to sign up for special offers.
-
You can put a fishbowl or display box to collect business cards and give something of value free once a month.
-
Ask your employees to make it a part of their routine to ask customers if they would like to receive your email newsletter or promotions.
Have a simple voucher at
checkout for this.
-
Run competitions and
prize draws, and require email address to be included as part of
customer details.
-
Collect names at trade shows, events and while on service calls.
Use the email addresses you already have.
-
Do you already have your customers’ email addresses?
-
Maybe you have created a group in your email address book?
-
Is there a stack of business cards from customers who have asked for more information?
-
Ensure that you enter cards into your contact
management system weekly and also add those email addresses to your
email list.
Place your email list sign-up on your homepage.
-
You may also want to place it on other pages, like “news” or “contact us” but whatever you do, don’t hide it-make it easy for visitors to join your list!
-
When asking web visitors to signup for your newsletter, include a
brief description of the benefits that they’ll receive for doing so.
-
Include a sample issue online so people can see what they will receive.
-
The objective is to gain quality sign ups, keep it simple and ask for email and name details only.
-
Include a link explaining
your privacy policy.
Leverage other websites.
-
Contact other sites where your target audience may be visiting. Then ask to partner with them to include your email marketing newsletter sign up in their communications and you can do the same with the partnering site.
-
Both of you collectively can grow your newsletter together!
